Navi Mumbai’s Infrastructure Boom: Coastal Road Projects Set to Transform Connectivity
Navi Mumbai is rapidly developing as a crucial hub in the MMR (Mumbai Metropolitan Region). With the construction of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) underway, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) is undertaking multiple infrastructure projects to enhance connectivity across the city. Among these, the Navi Mumbai Coastal Road Project stands out as a significant initiative aimed at improving access and reducing congestion on key roadways.
Ulwe Coastal Road
One of the major components of the project is the Ulwe Coastal Road, which is designed to connect Atal Setu (Mumbai Trans Harbor Link) with the NMIA. Spanning 10.1 kilometers, this six-lane coastal road will also include service roads, making travel between Ulwe, Belapur, and NMIA smoother and faster. The project has already commenced, with Jaikumar Infra handling construction at a budget of ₹912 crore.
This road will cross important areas such as Belapur’s Amra Marg (NH 348A) and will feature a 1.7 km long bridge over the Panvel Creek. The road is expected to provide direct connectivity to the NMIA, reducing travel times significantly and easing traffic on the Sion-Panvel Highway.
Kharghar-Belapur Coastal Road
Another vital part of the initiative is the Kharghar-Belapur Coastal Road, which will connect Sector 16 in Kharghar to Sector 11 in Belapur. This 9.6 km road will help divert traffic from congested highways while improving access to major business and residential areas in Navi Mumbai. With approvals pending from environmental authorities, the project will soon begin construction.
Both the Ulwe and Kharghar coastal roads will serve as vital arteries connecting different parts of Navi Mumbai, improving overall infrastructure and supporting the growth of the NMIA, as well as new business hubs like the International Corporate Park.
These coastal roads will play a crucial role in handling the expected surge in traffic once the NMIA becomes operational, making Navi Mumbai more accessible and easing congestion on existing highways.
